Alumnae Membership FAQ

Q: What are national alumnae dues and what do they cover?
A: National alumnae dues are the national dues program for Sigma Kappa Sorority. They allow the
organization to provide a number of resources for our members. Here are some highlights of what your national alumnae dues payment would support:
• Programming, trainings, and other resources for alumnae and collegians
• Extension opportunities for both alumnae and collegiate chapters to ensure growth of our organization
• Technology initiatives: The Sigma Kappa website, www.livesigmakappa.com and The SKoop
• An amazing staff stationed at national headquarters

Q: Didn’t I already pay a lifetime membership fee as a collegian?
A: Great question! Yes you did, but just as you paid chapter dues as a collegian in order to sustain an operating budget, the national organization also counts on member dues as our primary source of support and income. Currently collegians, who make up 7% of our membership, contribute 97% of our operating budget. Alumnae, who make up 93% of our membership, contribute 3% of our operating budget.

Q: How much are national alumNae dues?
A: $30 annually (Yes, that’s really it....$30 one time a year.)

Q: Are national alumnae dues tax deductible?
A: No, Sigma Kappa Sorority is a 501(c) 7 non-profit organization which means donations used for income purposes cannot be used for tax deductions. Donations to the Sigma Kappa Foundation tax deductible. Please visit www.sigmakappafoundation.org to see the great work the Foundation is doing.

Q: Are national alumnae dues the same as paying local dues?
A: No. Each alumnae chapter sets their own local dues, but most chapters add national alumnae dues into their overall dues amount. You will still be responsible for the remaining amount of local dues if you belong to an alumnae chapter. The Detroit Alumnae Chapter has $30 local dues for 2017.

Q: How can I pay my national alumnae dues?
A: Paying national alumnae dues is easier than ever!
• You can give a check to the Vice President of Finance of your local alumnae chapter
• You can at the Sigma Kappa website! Alumnae > Get Involved > Pay National Alumnae Dues
